Check on volunteer opportunities at KZSM

Your true community radio station is totally staffed by volunteers with a variety of backgrounds, talents and abilities. We often say that we do what we do for the sheer love of radio. For some, it has become another skill to add to a resume. Others tell us that becoming a radio host has revitalized an otherwise boring retirement. There are as many reasons for joining this radio family as there are radio hosts on our staff. The beauty of a community radio station is in its diversity and the camaraderie that often develops amongst the members of the organization. If this appeals to you, then please join us! We continually look for ideas and talented people who can add to what we have to offer. We are still looking for individuals to host programs in Spanish as well as a children’s hour and a dedicated country program.

Do you have an idea for a program or how we may better serve our community? Come and share your ideas at our next staff meeting on Wednesday, June 20 at Wake the Dead Coffee House. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. and will go until 9 p.m. Besides program ideas, we are always in need of volunteers who can share their time to assist with clerical, administrative, technical, and sometimes, physical tasks.

Our friendly staff can be found at the Farmer’s Market every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Look for us in the Kissing Alley every third Thursday for our Kissing Alley Concert series or stop by the studio and say hello. Our radio hosts will be happy to answer questions and address concerns. Also, take home a printed copy of our program schedule so you always know what to listen to and when your favorite program will be on the air.

This week, on Thursday June21, we will be entertained in the Kissing Alley by Logun Timberlake and City of Lights from 6 until 9 p.m. Our concerts are always free, family friendly, and open to the public. If you are a performer or know someone who is looking to get some world-wide exposure, we welcome you to contact us to arrange a performance either in the Kissing Alley or on the air during one of our live broadcasts.

Keep listening to your true community radio station. We have new programs in development and new radio hosts are always being trained!
