The San Marcos Farmers’ Market, held every Saturday morning on San Antonio Street, has been named the June Downtown Business of the Month by the San Marcos Main Street Program.

The San Marcos Public Library started a Bilingual Storytime program last summer for Spanish and English speaking preschool children in the area; but this summer they are expanding that program for kids ages four to 10 that will be out of school for the summer.

The Parks and Recreation Department will host the 10th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Friday, June 15 at the San Marcos Activity Center, located at 501 E. Hopkins St., from 6:30-9 p.m.

As the days of June get warmer I am reminded that summer’s “serious heat” is just around the corner. Every year about this time I get folks asking for advice on preparing their garden and flower beds to handle the heat. My answer is to employ the magic of mulch.
