In late September, there is a chance that the following scenario could come to fruition. 

As Paul Goldschmidt digs into the batter’s box in the eighth inning of a close game, he may have Donnie Hart staring back at him from the pitcher’s mound.

Goldschmidt and Hart, both former Bobcats, never actually played on the same Texas State baseball team; the latter was chosen in the 2009 amateur draft and Hart didn’t arrive in San Marcos until a few months later.

Everett Withers and the Texas State football team aren’t the only ones who have seen plenty of turnover in the offseason.

Ty Harrington and the baseball team are in the same boat. 

After the departures of eight seniors, many of whom had a big impact on the Bobcats in 2016 (read: Tanner Hill, Lucas Humpal and Pasquale Mazzoccoli), and two juniors who elected to forgo their final seasons in San Marcos and go pro (read: Jonathan Hennigan and Granger Studdard), Harrington’s team will look much different next season.

Paul Goldschmidt, who received that very title during an All-Star voting pitch by the Arizona Diamondbacks back in 2013, is expected to finish third in major league baseball’s annual popularity contest — although it’s hard to argue with the fans’ choice.
 

College Baseball: Texas State has 21 players back on the diamond for summer leagues

Players from Coastal Carolina and Arizona weren’t the only ones on the diamond this week.
 
Sure, the two College World Series participants, which slugged it out for the national championship, were chasing the summer’s biggest prize (the Chanticleers won a decisive game three on Thursday afternoon to take home their first-ever title).
