Bobcats’ season comes to close with loss to Troy

Texas State fell to Troy, 10-0, in eight innings on Saturday at Russo Park in Lafayette, La.
The run-rule loss in the Sun Belt tournament ends the Bobcats’ season.
The No.3-seeded Trojans (41-18, 19-11 Sun Belt) put together a dominating offensive performance against the No. 6 Bobcats (30-28-1, 16-14) with their 10 runs coming off 11 hits.
Troy senior right-hander Daren Osby shutdown Texas State with a masterful outing on the mound. Osby struck out eight and only gave up two hits.
The Trojans brought home their run of the game with a sac-fly by junior catcher Chase Smart in the second inning. Troy extended its lead to 3-0 in the third behind an RBI triple from junior center fielder Brandon Lockridge.
Holding onto a 4-0 lead, the Trojans exploded for five runs in the sixth inning. An RBI single from senior shortstop Matt Sanders and an RBI double by redshirt senior right fielder Joey Denison helped Troy push its advantage to 9-0.
The Trojans ended the game with an RBI double in the eighth inning to down the Bobcats, 10-0.
Troy moves onto play Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt tournament championship game on Sunday, while Texas State's season is over.
Junior righty Anthony Pagano took the loss for the Bobcats. He allowed four runs on six hits in four innings of work, while striking out three and walking two batters.
Texas State senior shortstop Luke Sherley and senior right fielder Dylan Paul both tallied hits in their final game with the Bobcats. Sherley played in his 221st career-game, which marks an all-time Bobcat record. Saturday’s game was also the final game for seniors Cam Baird, Derek Scheible, Jared Huber and Mickey Scott.
Texas State secured its 15th 30-win season under head coach Ty Harrington. But it’s the seventh straight season that the Bobcats have failed to advance to an NCAA regional.
