Texas State is back in the running for a new assistant coach.

As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Texas State’s special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach, Jordan Peterson, is set to become the new safeties coach at New Mexico.

The Bryan, Texas native was originally hired to replace former Texas State outside linebackers coach Tyler Santucci after Santucci left for a defensive analyst position at Notre Dame back on March 1. He’ll leave without ever coaching a game for the Bobcats.

Peterson will replace Charles McMillan who left to take over as head coach at St. Francis Episcopal, a new high school in the Houston area.

Peterson becomes now the fifth assistant coach Texas State head coach Everett Withers will have to replace this off-season.
