Schrade nominated for AFCA Good Works Team

Texas State Football

Earlier this week, Allstate along with the American Football Coaches  Association announced that senior tight end Gabe Schrade was nominated for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, an off-the-field accolade given by the organization and insurance company.

The Florida native is one of 146 student-athletes nominated for the award that “embodies the true spirit of teamwork and selflessness while donating their limited free time to helping and serving others.”

Schrade, a team captain for Texas State, earned the LBJ Civic Leadership Award last spring after serving as a Senator At-Large in Texas State’s Student Government. He also served as the president of the Texas State Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

According to the press release sent out by the athletic department, Schrade’s community service efforts include organizing a Valentine’s Day dance for the elderly at the San Marcos Rehabilitation Center, aiding in the San Marcos River Rehabilitation project, landscaping around the San Marcos Visitor’s Center and helping to clean around San Marcos Goodnight Middle School.

Schrade was also named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team by Lindy’s Sports and Athlon Sports earlier this summer. At the end of the 2016-17 academic year, he also earned a Oak Farms Dairy “Cream of the Crop” award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
