Decoud earns All-American honors at NCAA Championships

Texas State Track & Field

Texas State junior high jumper Chelsie Decoud was named a First Team All-American at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon for the second consecutive year.

Bobcat senior jumper Mylana Hearn and sophomore thrower T’Mond Johnson also earned All-American honorable mentions at the championship meet.

“It was a great experience for our student-athletes,” Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jody Steward said in a statement. “For Chelsie to return to the NCAA Championships and receive her second First Team All-American honor was an outstanding accomplishment. The exciting part is that all three student athletes return and can use this experience for their next trip to Eugene.”

Decoud chose to pass on the first height during the meet and cleared the second height of 1.78 meters. She followed that by clearing 1.82 meters on her first attempt. Decoud, however, couldn’t clear the bar at 1.85 meters on three attempts that would’ve have placed her in a tie for the Texas State school record.

Decoud finished the meet in a four-way tie for sixth place, which was an improvement from her seventh place finish in 2016.

Johnson finished in 21st in the men’s shot put, while Hearn ended the competition in 21st in the women’s triple jump. Hearn earned her second All-American honor – she made the second team in 2016. This was Johnson’s first All-American honor.
