Save the dates: San Marcos unveils 2017 football schedule

San Marcos’ 2017 schedule is out. 

The Rattlers will play the same non-district opponents as last season: East Central, New Braunfels Canyon, New Braunfels, San Antonio Taft and San Antonio McCollum. 

San Marcos kicks off its regular season at home against East Central on Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. The Rattlers then begin a three-game road trip starting with New Braunfels Canyon on Sept. 8 followed by New Braunfels on Sept. 15 then a Saturday night game on Sept. 23 against Taft. San Marcos returns home on Sept. 29 for its final non-district matchup against McCollum. 

The Rattlers went 2-3 against their non-district opponents last season. San Marcos dropped its season opener against East Central, 40-21, and bounced back with a 27-20 win over Canyon. But lost back-to-back games to New Braunfels and Taft. The Rattlers picked up a win over McCollum to end their non-district schedule last season. 

San Marcos begins District 14-6A competition against Del Valle on Oct. 6 at San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium. The Rattlers continue district play on the road against Austin Akins on Oct. 13. San Marcos then takes its bye week during the week of Oct. 20. 

After its week off, the Rattlers travel to Manor on Oct. 27. San Marcos returns home on Nov. 3 to square off against Austin Anderson. The Rattlers end their regular season on the road on Thursday, Nov. 9 against defending district champion Austin Bowie. 

San Marcos went 4-1 against its district opponents. The Rattlers won four straight, including a 48-47 comeback win over Anderson, before dropping its season finale to Bowie.
