I love to introduce friends and novices to different kinds of fishing. This week Beth and I invited Jerry Wahl and his wife Cindy to our coastal house for two days of fun on the coast.

Recently, I was reminiscing about some of the most unusual, unique and beautiful places that I have fished for bass. As a young boy I fished in some of the bayous and drainage ditches in the Port Arthur area. I did not have over-protective parents.

Our cool, clear Central Texas rivers are a true treasure. And in San Marcos we live right in the heart of three of them – San Marcos, Blanco and Guadalupe. To have an artesian river bursting out of limestone rock right downtown is an awesome thing.

I had not fished the San Marcos River since the Memorial Day flood of 2015. That flood and the Halloween Flood five months later devastated the fishing on the river.
