Council members deserve support

Letter to the Editor

Editor,

I am not conversant enough with the issue to question Elly Del Prado Dietz’ criticism of City Council’s actions concerning the ground lease associated with the old Dixie Cream Donuts building. The circumstances surrounding the lease seem somewhat murky. But I do know enough about the five council members who voted in favor of the settlement of this lease to disagree with Ms. Del Prado Dietz’ characterization of them.

These five individuals have represented the interests of San Marcos’ established neighborhoods, and the interests of the city overall, very well. Ms. Del Prado Dietz states rather ominously, “I will remember these five when (sic) return to the voting booth. I hope others will too.” I guess I am among the “others” and I will remember them – very favorably.

I also hope Ms. Del Prado Dietz has a long memory since only one of them will be up for reelection this year, although the mayor and the other council member, both of whom are presumably more to her liking, will be on this year’s ballot.
