Warrant issued in Kyle murder; suspect in custody elsewhere on unrelated charges
From Staff Reports
Kyle police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Michael Anthony Trego, 19, for the murder of Carlos Edward Fernandez in Kyle.
Trejo is currently in the Williamson County jail on unrelated charges stemming from a motor vehicle accident Monday morning.
Fernandez, 23, was found dead by Hays County Sheriff’s deputies who were assisting Kyle police just after 2 a.m. Monday morning following reports of a shooting in the area.
The incident in the Bluebonnet Ridge Trail Park in Kyle started with Kyle police responding to reports of a disturbance involving shots fired at the intersection of Fountain Groove and Antelope Hills just before midnight Sunday.
During the course of their investigation, police detained and later arrested Christopher Vacuna, 18, for having discharged a weapon. Vacuna was charged with deadly conduct.
Police said no one was reported injured as a result of the shot fired by Vacuna.
After clearing the scene, officers were called back at 2 a.m. Monday for another report involving shots fired. It was at that time that Hays County deputies, assisting Kyle police, found the body of Hernandez.
Hernandez had been questioned earlier as a witness regarding the incident that resulted in the arrest of Vacuna.
Kyle police are continuing their investigation into the murder. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Kyle police at (512) 268-3232.
This was the second homicide in Kyle in a matter of weeks. In late March, three people were stabbed at a party; one later died. That suspect turned himself in and is now behind bars.
