Boutique store seized

Failure to pay delinquent property taxes has led to the seizure of Miracles, a local boutique store at the intersection of W. Hopkins and Bishop in San Marcos.
And that means some who had been counting on the store for quinceañeras, prom dresses, wedding dresses and tuxedo rentals are now having to scramble elsewhere to find new outfits. San Marcos High School’s prom is just a month away on May 17.

New road approved by Commissioners

With little discussion, Hays County Commissioners on Tuesday approved an extension to Centerpoint Road from RM 12 to Hunter Road (RM 2439).
The action also authorized amending the Hays County Major Thoroughfare Plan Map and Roadway matrix.

Aquaponics system among CDBG applicants

The process for awarding Community Development Block Grants took another step forward this week as the San Marcos City Council held a public hearing giving interested citizens the opportunity to speak in support of applicants for this year’s grants.
With two categories, public services and construction projects, the council will have to make some decisions as applications exceed the amount of money available.

SMCISD to add pharmacy technician certification

As the San Marcos CISD continues to find new ways to enhance the value of a high school education, one of the new programs set to begin next year is Pharmacy Technician certification.
“What it means is that a high school student will be able to graduate with not only their high school diploma but also be certified as a pharmacy technician and walk into jobs with starting pay in the $25-$30,000 per year range,”  Pam Guettner, director of Career and Technical Education for the SMCISD, said.
