Goodnight students join mermaid parade

The Goodnight Middle School banner proclaimed “Celebrating the San Marcos River” complete with artistic drawings of sea grass, fish, salamanders, turtles, frogs… and mermaids… as the students joined the San Marcos Mermaid Day Parade on Saturday, Sept. 17. A decorated truck full of Student Council members pulled a float that heralded the beauties and resources of our hometown river.

The luminescent GNMS mermaids were Faith Phillips, Elise Hutchison and Lizbeth Cortez.

They were joined by fellow students Julia Antu, Angela Hernandez, Natalie Rodriguez, Emily Suarez, Nadia Bravo, Clair Avalos, Molly McLaughlin, Juliana Villalpando, Astasia Jackson, Olufunso Ogunbase, Evelyn Gray, Annaleah Lombardo, Angel Bacio, Eduardo Alaniz, Justien Hernandez, Piper Garcia and GNMS principal Rose Pearson.

Teacher sponsors who helped with the float and decorations included Connie Martin-Thompson, Dana Winek, Alicia Posey, Cheryl Blake, Norma Ybarra, Obi Lombardo and Belinda Bourne.
