Winning streaks have been hard to come by.

Every time Texas State (11-8, 4-3 in the Sun Belt) seems to have a big win on its hands, the Bobcats haven’t capitalized and turned that into a consistent string of performances. The team’s only two win streaks this season included wins over Oklahoma Panhandle State and Howard Payne.

AUSTIN — Senior Derek Boston and junior Daniel Sanchez went to work inside the post against Austin Akins on Tuesday.

The duo combined for 11 points in the final nine minutes of the game to help San Marcos defeat Akins, 50-47.

Boston and Sanchez both came off the bench Tuesday. Boston, who’s normally a starter for the Rattlers, battled through illness against the Eagles to score 15 points. Head coach David Norris said once Boston found his groove he “got out there and went to work and (San Marcos) needed him.”

After her team’s nine-point loss to UT Arlington on December 29, Appalachian State head coach Angel Elderkin was caught off guard.

At the end of the post-game handshake line, with her mind still racing from the competitive matchup in which the Mavericks captured the lead in the final two minutes, Elderkin received flowers and a card from UTA’s players — a sign of support for the head coach who was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in May of 2016.
