High School Boys Basketball: Where the Rattlers stack up right now

San Marcos’ David Norris said his team simply needed to regroup after falling to Del Valle on Friday. 

The loss represented the end of the first half of District 14-6A competition. The Rattlers fought their way to a 2-3 record through the first five district games, where they endured playing a grueling four out of five games on the road and half the team suffering through illness. 

Norris said his team simply ran into a wall after Friday’s result.

College Softball: Bobcats picked to finish second in conference

Coaches are taking Texas State seriously now.

After a breakout season a year ago, coaches picked the Bobcats to finish second behind the unanimous favorite, UL Lafayette, in this year’s Sun Belt Preseason Poll released Monday.

Head coach Ricci Woodard’s team went 40-22 in 2016 and earned the program’s second at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after advancing to the Sun Belt Tournament Finals.

Texas State Football: Busy stretch as National Signing Day closes in

National Signing Day is this week, which means recruiting is in for a hectic finish.Texas State had its final weekend of official visits this week and gained three commits while simultaneously losing two.

Angleto offensive tackle Kevin Davis committed to rival UTSA this weekend after taking an official visit to San Antonio. Davis was a Texas State commit up until his announcement via Twitter. Judson defensive tackle Darren Thomas announced his decommitment from Texas State Sunday night on Twitter as well.

High School Girls Soccer: Urbizu, Finch lift Lady Rattlers past Floresville

San Marcos topped a familiar opponent Friday night.

Junior forward Miranda Urbizu and sophomore Mary Finch connected twice during the Lady Rattlers’ 4-1 win over former District 27-5A foe, Floresville inside San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium. Urbizu ended the night with a hat trick.

High School Boys Basketball: Big fourth quarter launches Del Valle past Rattlers

DEL VALLE — San Marcos hit a wall Friday night. 

The Rattlers, who played four out of their first five District 14-6A games on the road, ran out of energy against Del Valle inside the Cardinals’ gym. 

Del Valle handed San Marcos its third district loss by defeating the Rattlers, 70-47.
